Derventa: New Business Zones – Opportunities for Employment and Growth

Derventa is establishing itself as a leader in economic development and attracting foreign investments, thanks to strategic plans for the development of business zones and a favorable investment environment. The newly elected mayor, Igor Žunić, emphasizes that one of the city’s key priorities is establishing a new industrial and business zone to meet the growing demand from domestic and international investors.

  • Plans for a New Business Zone
In an interview with RTRS, Žunić highlighted that requests for establishing new production facilities are on the rise, especially from companies in Austria and Germany:
“Investors are reaching out intensively, and due to increased interest, we will act promptly and begin drafting plans for a new business zone. We must focus on the economy and create conditions for new investments that will bring additional employment and strengthen the economy.”
It is particularly noteworthy that foreign investors, facing an energy crisis in Western Europe, increasingly see Derventa as an attractive destination for expanding their operations. Further details are available on the RTRS website.
  • Existing Business Zones as a Successful Model
Currently, 34 foreign companies operate in the city on the Ukrina River, including Austrian, Italian, German, and Chinese enterprises. One successful example is the Chinese company Grand Pak, which produces food packaging and exports between 10 and 12 truckloads of goods monthly to EU countries. The company’s general manager emphasizes that Derventa’s ideal geographic location is one of the key reasons for their success:
“Twenty-two kilometers to the border crossing enable quick delivery of goods to customers in the European Union. We plan to expand production due to high demand.”
